An Indian wedding

We were invited (via one of Helen’s friends) to a Sikh wedding in Jagraon (in the Punjab, about 7 hours drive from Delhi). One of the things we wanted to do in India was attend and wedding and it didn’t disappoint! Manmeet (Bride) and Bik (Groom) are the happy couple and they celebrated in style throughout the four days. You haven’t experience food until you’ve been to an Indian wedding – someone said weddings here are judged on how many varieties of chicken you have and I lost count!

We had a fantastic few days, made lots of new friends, drank and ate far too much and are keeping our diaries empty in case we get invited to any more :-)

A massive thanks to Manmeet and Bik for inviting us (despite having never met us before) and to Manmeets family for their hospitality and warmth (language barriers are easily overcome with an Indian smile and some bollywood dancing!).

Here are some pics:

Girls dressed up for the Jago - a party which happens a day or two before the wedding for the bride and her family.

During the Jago all the girls danced carrying a pot (gaggar) decorated with lightened candles and singing jago songs

Dressed up and ready to celebrate!

The bride and groom:

I could get into Bollywood dancing- its great fun!

Anyone for chicken?

  2. Hello!!, Great to hear from you both :-)

We're having a fantastic time out here, although your wedding is still our top highlight! We have a few good photos (some not shown above) from your wedding so if you would like us to share them with you let me know.

Its now getting a bit hot out here (around 44 today), so Aircon has become our new best friend. Were heading back to the UK ext week and are worried we are going to freeze!

How is married life treating you both? Did you have a nice honeymoon. If you're ever in Delhi please get in touch, we have more than enough rooms to put you up.

    Rob x
