Indian fruit

Not sure if any of you will have come across a mangosteen but it was one of our highlights on our short and interrupted visit to Malaysia.... :-) And now we have found it on our doorstep (imported from Thailand, but available all the same!).

As you can see from the pic it looks nothing like a mango, but it tastes delicious – think i'd put it up there with the best fruit I’ve ever tasted, so if you see one try it. Be warned, the purple juice will stain just about anything so have a cloth handy!

Mysterious citrus

When we moved in to our old house we found a mysterious tree in our back garden, which had lots of green fruits on it back in October.  When we got back after Christmas we found they are now all bright yellow (yes, it would appear fruit ripens in January here!).

They looks like lemons on the outside, and oranges inside, and it is the sharpest thing I have ever tasted (makes a nice trick to play on house guests as Helen's dad found out last week).  If anyone knows what it is please let me know, otherwise I'm calling it a oramon...

It does make very good drink once mixed with loads of sugar.  With 30 of these odd fruits in my cupboard I'm onto a sure fire way of making a little pocket money for myself..... Oramonade anyone? :-)

  1. Those mangosteens look somewhat better than the ones we bought in Basant Lok. I assume you took them back and got these new ones?
