We went to the Dussehra celebrations at Indian Airlines
Colony that is close to where we live. I won’t try to explain the story behind
the celebration as its quite long and complicated and is covered elsewhere on
the web…read: Rob’s looked into it and still doesn’t quite understand. In
summary it represents the triumph of good over evil and involves quite a
spectacular firework display.

It really wasn't that interesting for some people:
One of the funniest bits was about 2 minutes after the last
firework had gone off (Or so we thought), the crowd descended on remains of the
effigies and started pulling them down with the ropes and then taking the wood
and other bits home. How no one got hurt I don’t know, but it was a very
efficient way of clearing the site. Who needs health and safety at a fireworks
display?
