Let the fun begin...

We arrived in Delhi on 7th October 2011 at around 11am. On leaving the airport we were hit by a wall of heat (around 30 degrees) and it wasn’t even mid-day. Luckily we were relatively acclimatised thanks to the mini heat wave in the UK the previous week. Apparently this is supposed to be cool, so I dread to think what awaits us in July 2012.

Some highlights of the first few days:

- Driving and traffic - There are no rules apart from use your horn as much as possible, don’t look in your mirrors (most cars don't have mirrors) and whichever vehicle is bigger has the right of way... Makes short rides entertaining

- I tried out some Hindi with the Gurkhas guarding the British High Commission building only to be laughed at... My pronunciation has a lot to be desired.

- Our apartment is in Anand Niketan... It’s lovely, has so much space and a front and back garden

- Looks like our staff needs are growing, we’ve already got a housekeeper and cook called Gilbert, a rubbish collector, two guards, a gardener and we are interviewing for a driver tonight.

- After Helens first day at work we arrived home to a set dinner table and curry in the oven.

.... Definately is a different world!!

All in all were settling in really well, India seems like a fantastic and vibrant place and i’m sure will provide us with plenty of interesting experiences over the next few days, never mind the next couple of years.

Couple of images below:

- Us (by that i mean crown) unpacking our bits. Gilbert, our housekeeper is kneeling down, and his wife, Tara is standing next to me. They live on our compound above our garage.

- Stringent health and safety measures at the local building site...

  1. You forgot the cows, they rule the roads then comes the big cars! I hope your first interview question was "how big's your car?"
