Kathputli colony

Over the weekend I went for a photography trip to Kathputli colony, an amazing place in the west of Delhi. Its a place I've wanted to visit since i heard about it 3 months ago and it lived up to expectations.

It’s a slum that’s home to hundreds of performing artists including puppeteers, sword swallowers and jugglers to name but a few. The welcome we got into the area was great and pretty much every child we came across wanted their picture to be taken.

Although we didn’t see quite a few of the acts in the colony (they are probably hiding from the heat!), we did meet a puppeteer, a young juggler, a contortionist and a man called Ishamuddin who does the great Indian rope trick.

It was a fantastic morning and worth the 5.30 am start with just 5 hours sleep!

Here are some of the photos including some that are going in the portfolio.
